The Lil Envelope's Success Story

The Lil envelope were created to meet the ever-increasing needs of internet shopping as a way to package online items.

The objective was to save online retailers a great deal
of money by switching from bubble mailers to a product
(Lil envelope) which would benefit : 1) reduced postal costs
2) faster packing speed 3) reduced postage returns 4) lower
unit price 5) pallet space optimisation 6) landfill reduction
by being environmentally friendly.

’21st century equivalent to a jiffy bag
bubble envelope’

The objectives were met with outstanding results, greatly
reducing operational mailing costs. The Lil brand of
packaging has revolutionized the way online sales are
dispatched and it is now the common choice for mailing
media throughout Europe.
The key to its success was that it offered greater protection
for media than the industry standard 8mm thick bubble
mailer yet the Lil envelope was only 1.8mm thick. This meant
that media of 17-23mm thickness, could for the first time
be mailed through the much lower Royal Mail ‘Large Letter’
maximum 25mm thickness tariff instead of ‘packet.’ Putting
this into perspective, this meant that approximately 20%
of books would be mailed at a price of £1.20 instead of
£2.85, a HUGE saving.
