Job Description

Job Title:        Business Development Manager

Reports to:     Sales & Marketing Manager

Based:             Work from home / HQ in Huntingdon (at manager’s discretion)

Hours:             Full-time (37.5hrs/wk) 8.30am-4.30pm Mon–Fri with 30min lunch break.

Holiday:          26 Days paid annual leave plus bank holidays 

Term:              Permanent contract (standard UK employment ‘3 month probation’ applies).

Basic Salary:   £35,000 - £45,000 depending on experience / proven track record plus commission & company mobile phone

Job Purpose: To persuade senior buyers of both new prospects (20,000+ to include the major Internet Retailers) and existing customers (4,000+) to place physical orders and / or accept a meeting to establish packaging needs

Targets:          Primary:  New sales* value of £225K in first 12 months, then £360K per year subsequently

Secondary:  Arrange minimum 1 x meeting a day (video conference and / or site visit) (based on av 21 working days / mth)

*Definition: Persuading a buyer (new prospect or existing customer) to purchase something that Lil have not previously supplied and target value includes all repeat orders for first 12months from first order

(All company targets are subject to change to ensure they are always SMART and NOT unachievable)

Expectation:  Minimum 20 x daily dials resulting in **‘Meaningful Sales Interactions’

                        NO order processing admin or incoming call handling whatsoever.

**Definition: telephone conversations with the qualified buyer/decision maker. Therefore excludes switchboard level.

given in order to carry out the task with confidence and understanding of the company’s products].

Key Drivers for role success: This is a senior-level role at Lil so the candidate’s ambition & determination must rival the directors. Proven track record of sales via telephone vital.

There are 100+ of us operating from our Huntingdon manufacturing HQ (77,000 sqft) generating in excess of £20m Turnover, growing 20% p.a.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  1. To generate and attend meetings (online such as Zoom / Teams) or on-site visits face to face, both of which should be supported by Outlook meeting invitations accepted by all relevant parties.
  2. Reach out to and cold call pre-qualified leads, as well as generate your own leads when required using own initiative and industry knowledge to ensure targets / expectations are met
  3. Geographically plan meeting dates / times to make the most efficient use of time / fuel.
  4. Max 100-character ‘Lil’ abbreviated log of each call on CRM database (Shuttleworth).

  • Ensure that database is well maintained (event title, PECS, BDM notes box and event  comments box completed) and event ‘due dates’ are met at all times
  • Attend any relevant training courses and develop relevant knowledge, techniques and skills.
  • Adhere to stated policies and procedures relating to Health and Safety, and Quality Management

• Proven track record of sales via telephone essential.
• Highly motivated and able to work effectively under own initiative.
• Ability to challenge / persuade telephone prospect if hurdles need overcoming
• Comfortable making unsolicited calls
• Able to demonstrate previous ‘cold call effectiveness’
• Superb telephone manner & communication skills
• Comfortable communicating with directors and prestigious blue chip companies.
